Craving an elevated meal on ground level? Done. Velma’s offers the food you love from Maggie’s right from the pool deck. Wet your whistle with a cocktail from the on-site bar, or use our app to order food poolside. Whether you stay by the pool to eat or take your meal to your room is your prerogative.
Every one of our guest rooms is outfitted with the best. You’ll find a Bertazzoni range, Grown Alchemist bath products, Frette linens and robes, cozy fireplaces, king- and queen-sized beds, private balconies appointed with soaking tubs — and more — in every last one of our thoughtful accommodations.
In addition to the private soaking tub found on the balcony of every room, our saltwater pool and adjacent jacuzzi offer more room for swimming and soaking. Surrounded by lush landscaping and serene stonework, our water features are meant to inspire serenity at the end — or start! — of a day in the great outdoors. With no lifeguard on duty, little swimmers must be accompanied by an adult.
Known as the “Nordic Cycle,” the Hot Sauna + Cold Shower Plunge is a relaxation technique in which one spends 20 minutes in a hot sauna and then immediately plunges into a cold shower. This technique triggers rapid construction of blood vessels and elevation of blood pressure, stimulating various health benefits. An invigorating treat after a day of exploring the Desolation Wilderness — enjoy!
Regardless of whether you’re the type to climb to Maggie’s Peak or cycle the 70-mile perimeter of Lake Tahoe, our petite but efficient Fitness Studio will ensure you get in a good, challenging workout. With cardio equipment to elevate your heart rate and free weights to use for strength training, you’ll break a sweat in no time.
We’ve taken every measure to ensure our guests’ needs aren’t just met, but exceeded. Enjoy our guest laundry room, filtered water filling stations, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, the canteen marketplace, and access to gear you need to take a real Tahoe adventure.
Desolation Hotel is one of the few hotels in South Lake Tahoe that warmly invites dogs to stay at the resort. Although pets should not be left alone in their rooms, dogs are welcome to both explore the Desolation Wilderness and luxuriate at the Desolation Hotel right alongside their humans. Rooms with canine guests will be appointed with dog-friendly amenities such as food and water bowls, pet waste bags, and directions to our doggie relief areas.
Please note that excessively noisy or disruptive pets will be asked to find other accommodations.
Located only a few blocks from the beautiful southern lakefront, we are thrilled to offer our guests unlimited beach access all year long. As members of the Lakeside Park Association Beach, guests of Desolation Hotel can use the beach for a leisurely day on the shore, as well as for larger events.
